Happy Blahday to Me!

It is my birthday today. I do not say this to solicit birthday wishes. I already did that on Mile High Mamas when I required anyone entering today's giveaway to include "Happy birthday Amber" in the subject line.

Because I am not above pandering.

And there is nothing like having my inbox full 'o birthday love, even if coercion is involved.

Today will be pretty low-key. I will take Haddie to dance and then we are heading up to the mountains to indulge in our favorite fare at Country Road Cafe. I made this announcement yesterday amidst much protest. Admittedly, I have been resistant to making any plans and Jamie had a follow-up appointment with his former oncologist this afternoon. A doctor who requires him to fast six hours prior.

I generously offered to simply eat in front of him, reminscent of those times when I used to sloooooowly consume my ice cream so my brothers could covet mine after they gobbled theirs in one tongue swoop.

He rescheduled his appointment. What a killjoy.

Tomorrow, Grandma is coming to watch the kids while we fly out to Carmel-by-the-Sea. A land of sand, sea and story-book cottages.

And rain. Non-stop rain that is the forecast.

Welcome to my paradise....

Yeah, not sure what's up with our California weather... hopefully it will clear off and you will have a wonderful trip! If it doesn't, well, storm watching on the coast can be a lot of fun if you've got a little cottage right on the beach...
Happy Birthday :D

Happy Birthday!

I looked at that picture before I saw your post and I thought, "Oh, Carmel!" We lived in Monterey for a few years before we moved here to MD and I have to say that pictures like that make me a little jealous and a bit homesick for that place - the feel of the air, the ocean, the beauty, and even the rain :) I hope you have a great trip!

Oh, I really, really hope that the weather man is WRONG. How else are you supposed to get great pictures so that I can live vicariously through you if it rains the whole time? I definitely don't want picks of what you do indoors =P

What kind of Amber trip would it be without some quirky weather, or a luggage problem, or illness?

Sorry I missed sending you wishes on your birthday, but I never was one for conformity. So now you can get extra wishes for this even more special day...the day AFTER your b-day. How exciting to have a little getaway. Sorry to hear about the weather, maybe it will change! I'll cross my fingers for you. If not I'm sure you and Jamie can find something to do!!

Happy birthday, Amber.

I've been to Carmel-by-the-Sea many times. It's a gorgeous place, even if it is raining. (It has that Moon of Endor feeling with the mist clinging to the redwoods.) Plus, it's just another excuse to build a fire, eat great food and cuddle with Jamie.

I'm sorry I didn't get here yesterday, but Happy Birthday, Amber. Hope it was a good one.

I love Carmel--it's one of my favorite places to just go and relax, so I hope you and Jamie have a fabulous trip.

Happy Belated Birthday and I hope you and Jamie have a fun time in Carmel (we actually are part owners of some property there - it was inheritance through a trust that we got after my husband's grandmother died).

You and Jamie need some good R & R!! And oncologist? Does this mean J has or had cancer?

Sandi said...

By now you have been to Carmel. I love that place. Did you notice there are no fast food restaurants there? There is no place to just drive up to the window and get a 7-Up. Hope you had fun.

My first job
I grew up in the land of tender fruit. Peaches, pears, grapes, cherries. The kind of place where along country roads, the farmers set up tables to sell their fruit during the summer. A lot of kids had summer jobs picking or sorting.

When I was 10 years old, I decided that I wanted to make some money (80¢/hr …. Canadian!! I think I made a total of $10). I got a job for a week at a local farm where I sorted cherries. The cherries that were picked by people, were put on a small conveyor belt. As they went by, the idea was to remove the bad ones.

This was all well and good until one day it was REALLY hot. We were shaded a bit but not enough. I started to get a headache. My stomach got queasy. Of course the constant movement of the cherries going by didn’t help (I dreamed about floating cherries for weeks). It got hotter and hotter and my stomach got queasier and queasier until I BARFED all over the cherries on the conveyor belt!

Now the real kicker is what the farmer did. Here I am standing there, feeling better after having let go of my cookies, waiting to go home, watching him take a hose out to WASH the puke off the cherries. Don’t want to let the tasty things go to waste!! I wonder if he sold them at a discount.

Can't wait to hear all about that trip. (Well, you know, except for the wink, wink parts. heehee.)

Sorry it rained so much. Bummer

Oh and HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY. I hope this year turns out to be a wonderful one for you.
