Gone. All of it gone, gone, gone, gone, gone

Do you ever have times when life is just not going your way? That would be my last 72 hours. I haven't been able to access Mile High Mamas most of the day, only to find out that the denverpost.com's producer accidentally deleted an entire month's worth of posts and forum discussions. The last few days, I have spent hours writing these posts on an upcoming Expo, as well as linking to everyone who attended our inaugural Mama's Night Out on Friday.

All of it, gone.

If that doesn't tick me off enough, I also had several weeks of posts that were queued to be published. Gone. Hours and hours and hours of work sitting in my drafts. Gone.

Maybe my new theme song should be John Mayer's Gone. Baby Gone, Gone, Gone, Gone, Gone.

On a positive note, Bode's illness will hopefully soon be gone. He has had a lingering cold that augmented last weekend. Sunday night, he was inconsolable and I stayed up with him ALL NIGHT LONG as he sobbed "OUCHIE." At about 3 a.m., we almost made our first trip to the ER but held off and went to the doctor in the morning.

The culprit? His EARDRUM RUPTURED. Here I am whining about a deleted database and the poor little guy thought his head was going to explode. With the help of antibiotics and painkillers, he is finally turning the corner. Thanks to my good friend Lisa who took Hadley for the day, Bode and I were finally able to get some sleep that afternoon.

The sad thing? I was more functional on no sleep than I am on seven hours of it. Go figure.

The happenings of the last few days remind me of when Haddie and I recently watched Enchanted. As I gazed over at her, I was touched by just how sweet and beautiful she looked.

I approached her and starting singing,

Me: "You are my sunshine, my only sunshine."

Hadley [pointing to the movie]: "The evil witch poisoned her. She. Will. Die."

Believe me some days, I know the feeling.

I am so, so, sorry.

Oh, that's all awful! So sorry about Bode's ear pain. That must really hurt. And my wish for you is a nice nap today, and then some blog time, since you're going to need to rewrite some of those things. Darn.

That's such a sick feeling when that happens.

I hope Bode's recovery -- and yours -- continue at a rapid pace.

So sorry, Amber.

NOOOOOO!! That is really crappy! (Wait, can I say that word on your blog??) Sounds like you need to smack that guy around a little bit... or maybe a lot!
Glad Bode is feeling better :)

Ooh! That's awful about all that work deleted! I have been known to not save hours of work and have a computer crash but no one else ever deleted my work. Yikes!

Sorry to hear about Bode's ear problem. The teenager in our house was complaining that her ear hurt and was really whiny. We figured it was an ear infection and she was being overly dramatic as teenage girls can be. Hers was a ruptured eardrum as well. Needless to say I felt like a big heel!

Oh Ouch! For both Bode and for your work.

May all your work come back to you in positive and wonderful ways.

Here honey, let me take over. I'll bang my head on the wall for you, you go take nap. Poor thing.

Hang in there.

That is really really sad and annoying.
I'm often the wicked witch when the girls want to play princess. I even get to poison them with ice cream.

How can you make me giggle and be filled with pity? At the same. time?!

Craziness.

So, so, so sorry!

Oh! I am so sorry that the computer ate all your hard work.

Oh, poor little guy. Hope is OK now.
That stinks about your blog stuff. I would sure be frustrated!

That just plain sucks. I cannot stand the feelings of lost work. I've been there and it is devastating! So sorry!

That would be enough send me spiraling downward into a full-on melt down. Much like the one my 2 year old is having right now because she didn't have a nap today.

Oh, I feel your pain! My baby had his eardrum rupture 4 or 5 times before he turned 1, it was awful!!! I hope your baby feels better soon and I hope you can somehow retrieve all of your lost stuff!

YIKES. I would be so ticked about losing that work! It isn't like you have oodles of extra time on your hands. It sounds like you are handling things fairly well.

I hope Bode feels better soon.

Poor Bode! The ER is HORRIBLE. So sorry -

Sorry too about all your hard work vanishing into thin air!

Ugh! I'd guessed "ear infection" the other day, but trust Bode to take it to the next level of excrutiation. And poor mom! My little Nathan has been through that before, and the doctor said to me, "I cannot overstate the pain he is in right now." I felt so bad for him, as I now do for Bode. I'm picturing the medical regimen you're dealing with right now-- the drops, the antibiotics, the painkillers. Sigh. What a nightmare.

(Though I laughed at how you're more functional after no sleep than you are after lots of it. I totally get that! hahaha)

As for the Mile High Mamas stuff, that just... well... SUCKS! I noticed that there were some issues going on over there. I was hoping that someone behind the scenes just had to click the right button and voila! Fixed. Alas, no. I'm so sorry. UGH!

That is horrible! I'm so sorry. I hope something good comes your way soon.

whoa... that is sad... really really sad. I think I would have cried and drowned my sorrow with sparkling cider.

I'm so sorry.

So sad for Bode. I really hope he starts feeling better soon poor kid. I'm sorry about all of your hard work being lost... I'd probably go on strike for a while.

I'm just catching up on your blog. I have to say that I can relate to the weirdness and isolation of blogging. Weird that complete strangers respond when family doesn't, and doesn't bother to email either. I can relate.

Your enrichment sounded interesting. So sorry for your sucky week this week! I guess times like that make us better able to enjoy the good times, huh? I'm glad Bode is feeling better!!

Whoops! I was logged in as my hubby. That last comment was from me!

OUCHIE!! on the Eardrum. Poor baby!!
Hope he heals well...

I am shuddering in fear over the thought of a month's worth of blog posts disappearing... I don't know that I could recover from that.

And Enchanted? Have you been snooping at my house because that has been on every freaking moment of the day!!! I can sing all of the songs... even in my sleep...

Angie said...

That. Just. Sucks. I'm so sad for your work. All gone.

And poor Bode. Ear problems are the worst pain ever. I'm glad he's feeling a bit better.

Hadley is a crack up!

Ouch! Sounds like you had a painful few days! I hope your son continues on the road to recovery uninterrupted. And all that work and hours of it deleted! I would be in tears. You, however, managed to be funny :-) You have a much better and more admirable disposition obviously.

Curse the Computer Gods! I'm sorry about losing the posts and Bode's ear. Hard times.
But remember, Giselle doesn't die. She lives happily ever after. :)

Bummer!
I learned back in '82 to backup on a regular basis. Even now, I generally type almost everything in Word and store to external media.

How can I feel empathetic at one moment yet cracking my butt laughing the next at your plight? Perhaps I am the evil witch ...

How is the Bode man doing now? Poor little man, that must have been really rough.

And you? What kind of therapy are you using to get over this crushing disappointment of writer's loss? That in itself is head splitting I am thinking .... ouch.

A ruptured eardrum--oh my goodness. That has got to be so incredibly painful. Hugs to him.

That little Hadley is such a character.

Sorry about your posts--that is horrible.
