The movie Inkheart has been hitting the blogosphere. I swear, that movie is everywhere and won't even be in theatres until January 23rd. Illiterate soul that I am, I had never even heard of the best-selling trilogy until I went to see Twilight for the second time with my niece over Christmas.OK, maybe I am not that illiterate because I am reading the Twilight series for the second time.
Though I have somehow lost book four, which makes me not only quasi-illiterate but confirms I am disorganized.
Anyhew, there was a trailer for Inkheart at Twilight. And my 13-year-old niece FREAKED because she is a huuuuuge fan of the books. I freaked, too because 1) Brendan Fraser is cuuuuuuuuute and 2) He is Canadian.
Nevermind that this family-friendly adventure looks to be the next hit.
While we're on the topic of movies, Jamie and I are going this weekend. On an actual date. Without children. And we're a bit lost. There have been several great movies that have been released within the last few months so I am loooking for your recommendation: if it was the end of the world and you could only go to one movie, what would it be?
Because make no mistake: when we go to the movies without kids, the end of the world must assuredly be coming.

I've got some tickets to see and review so I promised the kids I take them to see it. Looks not too bad.
I can't help you much because we wait and watch the adult movies on DVD, I have a tendancy to fall asleep in dark movie theaters when I don't have kids around...but my folks recently saw the new Clint Eastwood movie and BOTH loved it.
Sorry, the last time I went to the theatre was .... I can't remember
Sorry I'm also no help. But congrats on the date. yea!
Watch "Savior of the World" with a TV guardian.
I get to go to the movies this weekend to! We may see the Benjamin Button movie, or we may see Clint Eastwood. We may also see Revolution Road if it comes out this weekend. Or we may fall asleep on the couch and never make it out the door.
We haven't been to the movies since seeing Twilight, so I can't help with movie suggestions.
We recently got InkHeart to read, I just haven't read it yet.
Have a great time on your kid free night out!
Amber,
I'm no help. I only even know of a few movies that are playing. We watch most of our movies at home via Netflix.
Have a wonderful time regardless of what you see.
I loved your last line! Great...you are going out on a movie date...way to usher in the Apocalypse, Amber.
I have heard nothing but bad things about the Benjamin Button, one...but...the last movie I saw in the theater was Alvin and the Chipmunks...so...uh...I don't have a really great point of reference.
I saw the previews for Inkheart and thought it looked great. I love Brendan Fraser.
The last movie I saw was Bedtime Stories and it was cute but definetely one you could take the kids to so don't waste your night out on that one. I can't remember the last adult movie I saw. I think it's time for a date night myself.
Let me think... the last movie I saw without talking animals in it was.... um... gosh. Actually, I think the last National Treasuer movie that came out was the last movie we saw without the kids. Pretty sad, eh?
I would like to see Inkheart with my oldest! We have a rule in our family though - if there's a movie out based on a book, you have to read the book before you can see the movie. So, I need to track down a copy of the book before the opening date!
I hadn't heard of this until your blog post!
And I still haven't made it to Twilight because I don't have anyone who will go see it with me! Maybe I'll have to be brave and see a movie by myself? Nah...
Those Inkheart books are awesome. I wish I had a movie recommendation for you. I heard that India one about the kid, oh nevermind I just looked it up and it's rated R. Don't know if you go for that sort of thing. Have fun on your date!
You seem to be striking out here... I can't help either as 1. I had no idea about Inkheart until I saw it on your post, 2. I haven't read even one of the Twilight books, and 3. I have been to see a movie in the last month in the theater without talking animals, but it wasn't one I would recommend...
Good luck!!
Wait, people actually still go to the movies? Hum. What a novel idea. I'm actually really dying to see the new Will Smith Movie. 7 pounds? Or something like that? But I heard it wasn't get very good reviews. But I love Will Smith. I can't imagine a movie being bad if he is in it.
don't feel bad... i'm a reader and a big movie goer and i've never heard of inkheart.
although benjamin button and seven pounds (seen both) are good, i would recommend gran torino. it is really nothing like the previews and commercials show. it is truly funny (couldn't catch all the lines because the whole theater was laughing) and story has a great moral. i think it's a must see.
let us all know what you end up seeing.
We are actually going out without kids this weekend, too. We see a lot of movies. I prefer a comedy and we actually just saw Yes Man. We liked it, but we saw it with our 15 year old and there are some questionable things going on that I wasn't happy to share with her. Plus Jim Carry's butt.
I was hoping for more info from your readers as to what to see myself. Benj Button is a 3 hour movie and I just can't do that. Snore!
I think it looks like it will be GREAT.
We went to see Seven Pounds--really liked it--take lots of kleenex. Also, Valkyrie was very good. One of my children saw Benjamin Button and just raved about it.
Hey, I was just watching the news and couldn't help think of you and your experience with the bird and your flight--goodness that is awful, but I'm sure glad everyone is O.K.
The Curious Tale of Benjamin Button- lengthy but a true love story.
Bride Wars- funny, predictable but worth seeing more likely with a friend that hubby...although sitting through chick flicks in our house is s sure fire way to ( as Oprah says) "get me some"
7 pounds- powerful especially given your personality (a comment Will Smith said was that it was one of his most challenging roles because he is so not that person)
Marley and me- if you have ever had a pet...this one is going to get you.
The Day the Earth Stood Still- boys likes it, we girls thought...see comment above about chick flicks
Revolutionary Road is touted to be another powerful movie but one that would require you to be in the right frame of mind. Seeing a marriage fall apart is always hard..feels somewhat voyeuristic. Acting -superb
Valkyrie- since the couch jumping days I dont do Mr. Cruise. But this is a true story about men, like my best friend's father who rose up against Hitler and against all odds to dethrone him. If historical films are your thing...this is a good one.
hmmmm see what happens when the kids get older...the bank account dwindles and we see more movies than we did the whole years they were under 13.
Wow. I'm so out of the loop. Completely uneducated. Inkheart? At least I know what Twilight is.
This reminds me, I officially got put in charge of date night... only after I got out of chaperoning the youth dance... he refused to come.HAHAHA.
I think we are going to try to escape and go to a movie this weekend, too. But since the last movie I picked, hubby says he's picking. What? The rugby movie was too much of a chick flick for you? AT least I didn't chose the Twilight movie (which, by the way, I haven't seen yet).
My son read all of these books last year (9 years old) and did reports on them. I had never heard of them until then. He's excited to see this movie... I just don't like going to movies at all. The seats full of germs makes me want to vomit. (Yes, I am one of those germaphobia people.) I think it will look nice on my big screen TV. :)
I hope you had a wonderful date night out.....
You deserve it!!!

I haven't been to see a new movie in an age. Have fun!
I am laughing so hard at all these comments and feeling better knowing that I am not alone for not seeing a movie with Hubby in years. I haven't seen a movie with Mark since before Rowan was born almost 4 years ago.
I get my movies from the library and watch them alone after everyone is sleeping.
Oh my goodness, because of all of our moving, the only movies we see in the theater are the ones we can take the kids to! I'm always excited for one that isn't animated!
Sadly, I think that they last movie that I saw in a theatre was probably Twister or something like that, so I am no help in that department for you.
I am though interested in the Inkheart series so will have to go and check it out. I am a reader and I haven't heard of that series. Then again, I live in a tiny town that is a little behind the times so perhaps in five years from now, it will hit the stands (okay and theatres) here.
