Jamie bought me a new Sony Vaio laptop in April. Overall, it has been very functional and I enjoy it. But I have had one very big problem from Day 1: my pictures take forever to load.OK, maybe forever is a bit of a hyperbole. Let's just say a reallllllllllly long time. The equivalent of 2 days in Amber time.
In the beginning, it would take about 20 minutes to download a few pictures from my iPhone and digital camera. Then it turned to a couple of hours for a batch of 20 pictures.
I can't do slideshows because each picture takes about 15 seconds to load. Rotating them? Forget it. At least another two minutes per picture.
I've been going out of my mind and need advice if any of you have ever had this problem and if so, how do I fix this? Does anyone have any tips on another photo management system I can use to download pictures to my network that is NOT Picasa (which I hate).
Each time I try to download pictures, I am hopeful *this* time will be different.
Some call it early-onset Alzheimers.
But when downloading my latest batch of 25 pictures, I had to throw in the towel when I received this message:

38 days?? Who has that kind of time to wait for pictures. Maybe there is some sort of bug on your computer? But I no almost next to nothing about this.

BTW, that is the craziest message I've ever seen.
I personally like to use Corel Paint SHop Pro x.... they have newer versions than mine... but since it wors so well... I havent ever upgraded....... thats to get pics from your phone/camera/xd/sd card TO your computer....
Another program thats I use thats fun and fast.. is Photostudio 2000.....
I dont know if either of those will help you... but you could try.... I use to have a Viao.... good laptops.... but towards the end it was slowing down and bogging up on EVERYTHING... which is why I got my Dell Latitude...(used).... and then my Acer... =)
ANother one I use that is online.. is Phanfare.com it takes about 5 minutes to load about 30-50 pics there...

Oh, that's funny. And sad. I'm sorry! I hope you get it figured out.
I guess you can consider yourself lucky the message doesn't read "28 Days" left ... zombie alert LOL. One thing you could try is to see if there are new drivers available for your laptop. If the problem occurs with multiple devices (i.e., your iPhone and digital camera), then it's likely not a problem with those. The other thing, of course, to consider is if there's something nefarious lurking on your laptop in the way of a virus or malware that may be slowing things down. Unfortunately, there could be a million different causes, but even though your laptop is fairly new, a new driver may be needed. A word of caution -- the Sony VAIOs are notorious for being finicky about driver updating procedures being strictly followed, so be careful to follow instructions on the Sony site exactly or you could have a bigger problem on your hands. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Good luck!
Wow... Um... I have no idea! I hope someone else here has an idea for you because 38 days just seems a tad excessive. 37 would be okay, but 38 is just one too many!
That is insane! How long did it take you to download the picture of your dowloader bar? lol

Amber, that's insane. Something is obviously wrong. I know we live in an instant gratification kind of world, but it shouldn't take that long for photos to load. I'll see if the International Man of Mystery has any ideas.

i don't have any answers (sorry!) but wonder if it's a picasa problem. do you know anyone who uses this program that you could ask if they're experiencing any problems?
i guess it could be the computer. are other programs running slowly? i would find a computer expert to have a look at it.

That is a hellava long time to download pictures. lol
I think the first photo you chose was very appropriate and if you have a gun, I suggest actually pulling the trigger on your computer.
My ten year old mac would download much faster than that.
My computer genius husband has a few questions for you.
Once he has your answers he'll most likely be able to help you :)
Are you using Windows XP or Vista?
Is this only when you copy pictures from your camera/iphone?
Are you using itunes with your iphone and it takes for ever or some other software?
What model of Vaio laptop?
If you copy pictures from one location on your hard drive to another location is that slow? (copy pictures from c:\pictures\image.jpg to c:\temp\image.jpg)
I think your computer issues are way beyond my ability to assist you...but some advice:
I find it easier to put the card into a card reader & copy the pictures rather than download them from the camera. It always seems faster.
