The truth: revealed

So, I'm curious to hear what your experiences with Parent-Teacher Conferences have been?

I am meeting with Hadley's beloved kindergarten teacher today for our first meeting. I'm not sure of what to expect but am not too worried because Hadley is shockingly well behaved in the classroom. She only ever had one *incident* in preschool.

And then she suffered Abuse By Carbs.

When I scheduled the appointment, I mentioned it to Jamie.

Me: You should come to Hadley's Parent-Teacher Conference with me.

Jamie: I'm not taking the blame.

Marissa has always gotten good reviews at parent-teacher conferences, although in Grade 4, her teacher told me that she would be most appreciative if Marissa wouldn't get up and dance between the desks until the lesson was over.

I am a little nervous too. Evan has already flashed the entire class because he left the bathroom with out pulling up his pants. He had just realized that he had forgotten to ask the teacher if he could go to the bathroom so he decided that he had to do that before anything else. That was a fun one to hear about.

Love Jamie's response! It always has amazed me that my hardest children do fabulous at school. I guess they have to be good somewhere- so if it is at school- hurray for that!

My kids are always WAY better at school then at home. Sometimes I wish they would be that good for me.

Good luck!

Fun stories. Turns out I'm going to postpone the conference. Sick kids and a husband who has a meeting during it!

Most of our conferences for my oldest have gone something like this... "Great reader, awesome math skills, picks up on things quickly... but how do you get him to be quiet??" :) He's a tad on the chatty side. I think it's gotten a little better as the years have gone by... but not much!

I always sign up for the conferences they do after the first month of school. I have gotten a note home everytime, "we don't need to see you. she is fabulous." I'm sure that won't be the case when the monkey starts school.

Jamie's reaction made me belly laugh.

I always knew carbs were dangerous.

Ooooo parent teacher conferences. For us, it usually meant,

"Jake needs to learn to pay attention in class." (EVERY damn YEAR)

or in kindergarten...

"Jake needs to stop telling the kids how to do everything."

LOL.

Teacher said: "Your daughter is a leader and has very advanced verbal skills."

Translated: "Your daughter is bossy and swears like a sailor."

I see now I could compile a book of great teacher-conference stories. Hilarious!

I can't wait to hear how it went. Just a note: Most (not all) teachers have a hard time communicating with parents. They are much better with children so don't take offense if you have a difficult time getting info out of the teacher. My "best" teacher conf. statement came from my sons 2nd grade teacher. She was about 8months pregnant and told me "she couldn't wait to get outta here!" Great! Just what a parent wants to hear!
